Tax Issues
To aid your understanding of the tax consequences of a contribution to Christ Commanded, the following paragraphs describe various features of the tax law. The following discussion is not meant to serve as tax advice, and you should review the potential tax consequences of a contribution to Christ Commanded with your advisor before making a contribution.
DO YOU RECEIVE A TAX DEDUCTION?
This letter is required to substantiate a deduction for a contribution of cash, securities, or other assets of $250 or more and you should keep it with your other tax records in case a copy is requested by the IRS
If you itemize your income tax deductions, you may be eligible for a deduction based on the value of your contribution on the day that it is made to Christ Commanded.
Even though the acknowledgment letter may provide a good faith estimate of fair market value, you may still be required to obtain an outside valuation of certain assets contributed to Christ Commanded in order to take a deduction in excess of $5,000 on your tax return.
This outside valuation, which is known as a qualified appraisal, must include certain information required by the IRS in order to adequately support a deduction
WHEN IS YOUR CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION DEEMED TO BE MADE FOR TAX PURPOSES?
In general, your charitable contribution is deemed to be made for tax purposes when the assets you contribute are put beyond your dominion and control.
You should consult with your tax advisor about your personal tax circumstances, including the deductibility of your contributions. In general, the timing and value of your contribution will be determined as follows:
• Checks are deemed contributed when there is an unconditional delivery of the check and the check subsequently clears when presented for payment; if, by U.S. mail, delivery is accomplished when you mail your check with a proper postmark.
• Wire transfers are deemed contributed on the date the funds are transferred from your account and received by Christ commanded.
Just $10.00 will give outreach opportunities to an underprivileged homeless person and introduce them to Jesus Christ with a sack lunch and a sermon.
